Clinical Nurse IV Leader - Emergency Department
Join Duke University Health System as a Clinical Nurse IV Leader in the Emergency Department. This role combines advanced nursing practice with leadership in a high‑acuity environment.

This position provides local leadership in administration, education, informatics and quality while delivering specialized nursing care for patients in accordance with the Nursing Clinical Ladder Program and North Carolina Board of Nursing guidelines.
Responsibilities- Identify care needs for patient populations across the continuum of care.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop standards of care and educate patients, families, and staff.
- Provide leadership in clinical education, departmental committees, research projects, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Guidance in material resource selection, vendor collaboration, and performance review of equipment and supplies.
- Mentor and coach staff, providing role modeling, coaching, and professional growth opportunities.
- Conduct performance reviews and recommend personnel actions including hiring, performance appraisals, disciplinary actions, and terminations.
- Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
- BSN or graduate‑level nursing program required; current RN licensure in North Carolina required.
- Emergency Department experience required; must meet level IV requirements set by the DUHS Career Ladder Program.
- Knowledge of RN scope, nursing process, professional theory, and practice standards.
- Strong communication, teaching, and team‑building skills.
- Ability to manage patient care in an acute, fast‑paced environment with strong problem‑solving and technology literacy.
- Competent in BLS; other life‑support certifications as applicable.
- Pre‑employment physical capacity testing required.
- Full‑time – 40 hours per week.
- Primary shift:
Nights (7 p.m. – 7 a.m.). - Call requirement for backup on other shifts.
