Job SummaryWe are seeking an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) for Duke Orthopaedics of Apex, Duke Sports Medicine, Duke Orthopaedics Cary and Duke Orthopaedics of Arrington to provide direct patient care services in collaboration with the attending physician requiring Spine Orthopedic care as well as General Orthopedics. The APP will augment a physician’s ability to provide medical services to patients. If a Nurse Practitioner‑RNFA certified or a Physician Assistant, first assist as needed in the operating room at Duke University Hospital and Duke Regional Hospital.
Primary hours will be Monday through Friday with hours flexible to meet the needs of the patients.
Job Duties and Responsibilities- Provide care for patients needing spine and general orthopedic care.
- Coordinate patient care including triage, physical exams, collecting and documenting data, conducting diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, ordering and scheduling laboratory studies, assisting with peri‑operative workflow including scheduling, pre‑ops, and post‑op follow‑up, diagnostic procedures and professional consultations, and prescribing appropriate interventions and medications.
- Communicate verbally and in writing all pertinent patient information to supervising physician, nursing staff, patient resource manager, home health agency, and other relevant healthcare providers.
- Provide timely documentation in the electronic medical record of all relevant data including results of diagnostic tests, laboratory results, patients’ condition and response to therapies/interventions, communications with physician colleagues.
- Respond to patient inquiries and concerns via telephone or EPIC MyChart messages and be accessible to consult with supervising physician as needed.
- Analyze clinical practice patterns to provide the best medical care and to increase effectiveness and efficiency.
- Refer general orthopedic patients to other services as needed to meet the needs of the patients.
- Nurse Practitioners:
Work requires completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program, with a Master’s degree in Nursing. - Physician Assistants:
Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program. A Bachelor’s degree required;
Master’s degree strongly preferred.
- BLS required.
- Nurse Practitioners:
Must have current or compact RN licensure in the state of North Carolina. National certification as an NP required. - Physician Assistants:
Must be licensed in the state of NC, and be certified as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. - DEA license required.
