Job Summary

The APP augments a physician's ability to provide a thorough evaluation of a patient's medical/surgical history. Responsibilities include provide direct patient care services and performs medical acts as an APP under the supervision of the supervisory physician to patients >12 years of age of patients with lower extremity wounds and amputations. Will be responsible for caring for patients on the Threatened Limb/Limb Loss Team, primarily inpatient with some outpatient

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Orders and schedules laboratory studies and professional consultations
  • Rounds on in-patients
  • Clinic responsibilities
  • Operating Room responsibilities
  • Prescribes appropriate interventions and medications, and provides direct patient care services.
  • Provides leadership in the care of patients seen within vascular, diabetic, dysvascular and orthopedic trauma.
  • Utilization of clinical expertise to provide preoperative and postoperative care, counseling, and teaching to patient and family.
  • Educating nurses to ensure knowledge and competency in basic wound and lower extremity management; and working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to plan and coordinate care. The APP is an integral part of multiple teams, as a clinician, educator, consultant, leader, and investigator.
  • Work with a supervising physician
  • Any other related duties required to service pre-surgical and/or pre-anesthesia care
Job Eligibility Requirements Education

NP:
Graduate of accredited MSN or DNP Nurse Practitioner program for adult care.

PA:
Graduate of arc accredited masters or doctoral degree physician assistant program.

Licensure

NP:
Current unrestricted RN license issued by or recognized by the NCBON with approval to practice as an NP.

PA:
Current unrestricted medical license issued by the NCMB with approval to practice as a PA.

Both:
Federal and State DEA prescriptive authority

Certification

NP: FNP, ANP, AGNP, ACNP, AGACNP

Must also have RNFA in addition to NP certification. If you don't currently have RNFA, you must get within 1 year of hire.

Must also have WOC certification in addition to NP certification. If you don't currently ahve WOC certification, you must get within 1 year of hire.

PA: PA-C

Experience
  • 1 year APP experience in wound care is preferred but not required
  • Operating Room/Surgical experience is also preferred.
Physical and mental requirements
  • Able to clearly articulate scope of practice, and practices within those guidelines as a Nurse Practitioner / Physician Assistant in the state of North Carolina and within the Duke University Health System.
  • Able to independently seek out resources and work collaboratively to solve complex problems.
  • Able to communicate clearly with patients, families, visitors, healthcare teams, physicians, administrators, leadership, and others.
  • Able to use sensory and cognitive functions to process and prioritize information, and perform health assessments, treatment, and follow-up.
  • Able to use fine motor skills.
  • Able to record activities, document assessments & interventions; prepare reports and presentations.
  • Able to use a computer and learn new software programs.
  • Able to provide leadership in clinical areas of expertise and in meeting organizational goals.
  • Able to navigate the Hospital and DUHS to provide clinical expertise to specific patient populations
