Job SummaryWe are seeking an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) with the Duke Surgical Oncology Division of Endocrine Surgery. Position will work in tandem with attending physicians and other APPs, collect and document data, conduct diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, order and schedule laboratory studies and professional consultations, and provide direct patient care services. A component of the role is dedicated to the operating room, including first assisting, perioperative decision-making, and coordination of operative care.
Primary hours will be Monday through Friday, day shift, with hours flexible to meet the needs of the patients. There are no on call responsibilities.
The position is structured to provide a balanced mix of operative, collaborative clinic, and independent clinical responsibilities. While the weekly schedule may vary based on operative volume, patient needs, and service coverage, the anticipated schedule will generally include:
- 1–2 operating room days per week, participating directly in surgical cases as a first assistant or performing other delegated operative responsibilities.
- Approximately 2 clinic days per week with the attending surgeon, evaluating new and established patients, participating in surgical decision‑making, coordinating preoperative planning, and providing postoperative care.
- 1–2 independent APP clinic days per week (in person and telemedicine).
- In collaboration with Surgical Oncology (Endocrine Surgery) attending physician(s), the NP/PA performs triage, physical exams, collects and documents data, conducts diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, orders and schedules laboratory studies, diagnostic procedures and professional consultations, prescribes appropriate interventions and medications, coordinates the care of patients, and provides direct patient care services.
- Analyze clinical practice patterns so as to provide the best medical care and to increase effectiveness and efficiency.
- Communicate verbally and in writing all pertinent patient information to supervising MD, nursing staff, patient resource manager, home health agency, and other relevant healthcare providers.
- Provide timely documentation in the electronic medical record of all relevant data including results of diagnostic tests; laboratory results; patients’ condition and response to therapies/interventions; communications with physician colleagues.
