About

The Role

As a Credentialed Vet Technician at Animal Eye Care of Durham, you will play a crucial role in providing high-quality veterinary care to animals with eye-related issues. Your primary responsibility will be to assist veterinarians in diagnosing and treating various ocular conditions, ensuring the comfort and well-being of our patients. You will also be responsible for educating pet owners about eye health and preventive care, fostering a supportive environment for both animals and their owners.

This position requires a blend of technical skills and compassionate care, as you will be interacting with both animals and their human companions daily. Ultimately, your work will contribute to improving the quality of life for pets and enhancing the overall client experience at our facility.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Completion of an accredited veterinary technician program.
  • Current veterinary technician credentialing (e.g., RVT, LVT, CVT).
  • Strong understanding of animal anatomy and physiology.
Preferred Qualifications
  • No Experience in a veterinary ophthalmology necessary.
  • Certification in veterinary emergency and critical care.
  • Familiarity with veterinary anesthesia.
Responsibilities
  • Assist veterinarians in performing eye examinations and diagnostic procedures.
  • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by the veterinarian.
  • Prepare and maintain surgical instruments and equipment for eye surgeries.
  • Educate pet owners on eye care, treatment plans, and preventive measures.
  • Maintain accurate medical records and ensure compliance with veterinary standards.

Skills

The required skills for this position include a solid foundation in veterinary medicine, particularly in anesthesia, which will be utilized daily when assisting with examinations and treatments. Strong communication skills are essential for effectively educating pet owners about their pets' eye health and treatment options. Attention to detail is critical when maintaining medical records and preparing surgical instruments, ensuring that all procedures are conducted safely and efficiently.

Additionally, the ability to work well under pressure will be important during busy clinic hours or in emergency situations. Preferred skills, such as experience in veterinary software, will enhance your ability to streamline processes and improve overall clinic operations.
