Hiring Range: $45,493.00 - $70,012.00

This position involves maintaining and repairing City property, vehicles, and roads through semi-skilled and skilled labor, technical work, and operation of heavy equipment. Responsibilities include training staff, serving as a lead worker, and making decisions on task execution within operational guidelines.

Applicants will complete a field assessment to demonstrate proficiency in operating backhoe, skid steer, rubber tire loader, and 10-ton roller. ***
- Safely load/unload heavy equipment onto trailers and tow equipment to various sites.
- Perform vehicle and equipment inspections, monitor and replenish fluids, and conduct basic repairs.
- Proficient in operating Backhoe, Excavator, Rubber Tire Loader, and 10-ton roller.
- Must be able to drive dump trucks regularly.
- Experience with jumping jack tamper, 5-ton roller, asphalt paver, and tack kettle is a plus.
- Assist in manual excavation, ditching, back filling, and asphalt work.
- Help train staff and serve as a lead worker.
- Assist with traffic control and flagging operations.
- Maintain clear records including timesheets and inspection forms.
- Check and clean basins.
- Use performance management systems to document work progress.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or GED.
- At least 4 years of experience in maintenance or heavy equipment operation.
- Valid NC Class A Commercial Driver's License.
- Proficient in operating asphalt paver, Backhoe, Excavator, Rubber Tire Loader, and 10-ton roller.
- Knowledge of asphalt placement and finishing, and use of hand tools.
- Experience digging asphalt cuts and loading/unloading heavy equipment.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of DOT traffic laws relevant to heavy equipment.
- Position is critical for emergency operations and requires readiness to work during emergencies and inclement weather.
- Subject to standby/recall, after-hours, and winter weather operations involving service or dump trucks with plows.
