The Facilities Services Department reports directly to the Associate Vice-Chancellor for Facilities Management and is responsible for providing housekeeping service throughout NCCU campus.
Primary Purpose of PositionThe primary purpose of this position is to perform grounds maintenance activities to ensure the University campus is safe, clean, attractive, and well-maintained. Responsibilities include mowing and trimming turfgrass; pruning trees and shrubs; planting and maintaining trees, shrubs, and flowers; weeding, cultivating, and mulching plant beds; applying herbicides; removing leaves and other landscape debris; and removing snow and ice from University roads, sidewalks, and walkways
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities- Working knowledge of groundskeeping and horticultural practices.
- Knowledge of cultivation, pruning, spraying, and trimming requirements for trees and shrubs.
- Ability to perform medium to heavy physical work.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to multitask effectively while frequently bending, stooping, and performing other physical activities.
- Ability to work independently, take initiative, and follow assignments through to completion or resolution.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion when solving problems.
- Basic computer skills.
- Ability to understand and follow written instructions.
Some knowledge of cleaning procedures, ability to follow instructions and to perform medium to heavy physical work; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Special certification may be required for some of these positions.
