Full‑Time Bus Driver / Operator

Durham City Transit Company dba GoDurham is recruiting for Bus Operators. This position involves transporting passengers throughout Durham according to set times and schedules. Bus drivers will operate a bus safely, provide excellent customer service, and ensure passengers’ comfort and safety.

This is a full‑time position; part‑time is not available.

All applicants must:

• Have at least a CDL Permit or obtain a CDL within 7 business days of employment (training provided).
• Maintain a valid CDL with a passenger endorsement and a DOT card.
• Pass a drug screening and criminal background check.
• Possess a clean driving record; 6 years of driving experience preferred.
• Be capable of driving in adverse weather and working split shifts.
• Understand that obtaining a CDL within the first 7 days and maintaining it before completing the full training is a job requirement.

• Abide by all safety, federal transit, traffic regulations, and company policies.
• Complete all required paperwork, including manifests, pre/post‑inspection checks, and accident reports.
• Follow dispatch instructions and plan efficient pick‑up and drop‑off sequences.
• Attend and successfully complete training classes.
• Answer passenger questions politely and accurately.
• Ensure passengers’ ride is comfortable and safe.
• Provide assistance to individuals as needed.
• Stay current on all service routes.

• Effective 01 July 2023 starting hourly pay is $19.11 per hour, increasing to $20.46 at 6 months of service.
• Hourly rate rises to $29.00+ after 4 years of service.
