Position: Part-Time Bus Driver / Operator

Job Description

Durham City Transit Company dba GoDurham is currently recruiting for Part‑Time Bus Operators. This role involves safely transporting passengers throughout Durham according to set times and schedules while providing excellent customer service.

Part‑Time Schedule and Training

  • Guaranteed minimum of 28 hours per week with the opportunity for additional hours.
  • Full benefits eligible if you work at least 30 hours per week.
  • Full training provided to obtain a CDL and required endorsements (160–240 hours of behind‑the‑wheel and classroom training).
  • Successful completion of the CDL permit and license is required to continue employment.

FAQ

  • Work Schedule: Operations will create a PT schedule—typically nights, weekends, holidays, and occasional days.
  • Pay: Effective 01 Jul 2023: $19.11 per hour; 6‑month increase to $20.46; 1‑year increase to $21.83.
  • Training

Benefits

  • Starting hourly pay: $16.85 per hour, increases to $18.05 after 6 months.
  • Regular increases to $25.00+ after 4 years of service.

Responsibilities

  • Abide by all safety, federal transit requirements, traffic regulations, and company policies.
  • Accurately complete all required paperwork (manifests, pre/post‑inspection checks, accident reports, and other forms).
  • Follow dispatch instructions and create efficient pickup/drop‑off sequences.
  • Answer passenger questions politely and accurately.
  • Ensure passengers' ride is comfortable and safe.
  • Provide assistance to individuals as needed.
  • Maintain current knowledge of all service routes.

Experience and Qualifications

The successful candidate must be able to obtain a valid CDL permit within 7 business days of class start and subsequently obtain a valid CDL prior to the completion of the full training class with a passenger endorsement and maintain a DOT card.

Preferred:
Six years of driving experience, a good driving record, ability to drive in all adverse weather conditions, and prior bus or heavy vehicle experience. All candidates must pass drug screening and criminal background check.
