The School and Role
Do you have a big heart, a calm head, and a passion for supporting children’s emotional wellbeing?
Are you the kind of person who can turn a tough day into a positive one with patience and understanding?
Do you want a role where no two days are the same—and every day truly matters?

We’re looking for a Children’s Mental Health Assistant to join our brilliant supply team, supporting pupils across SEND and alternative provision schools in Durham. These settings support children who may experience anxiety, trauma, low self-esteem, or emotional regulation difficulties—and they need consistent, caring adults to help them feel safe and supported.

In this role, you’ll work 1:1 and in small groups, helping children manage emotions, build confidence, and develop positive coping strategies. Whether it’s supporting a calm start to the day, helping a child through a tricky moment, or celebrating small wins, you’ll be making a real difference every step of the way.

The Ideal Children’s Mental Health Assistant Will Be:

Warm, patient, and genuinely caring

Confident supporting children with emotional and mental health needs

Able to stay calm during challenging moments and use positive behaviour strategies

A great listener who builds trust quickly

Passionate about helping children feel understood, valued, and confident

Experience in care, youth work, education, psychology, or mental health support is highly valued—but most important is the right attitude. A DBS on the Update Service is required (or willingness to apply).

What We Offer

Meaningful Work – Make a real difference in children’s lives every day

Flexibility – Choose when and where you work

Competitive Pay – Paid weekly through PAYE

Work–Life Balance – Minimal work outside school hours
