The School and Role
Are you creative, imaginative, and passionate about helping children express themselves?
Do you believe art, music, drama, or creativity can unlock confidence and potential?
Are you looking for a rewarding role supporting children with additional needs?

We are seeking a Creative Arts Assistant to join our fantastic supply team, working in SEND schools across Durham. These schools support children with a range of additional needs who often thrive through creative, hands-on learning experiences.

In this role, you’ll use your artistic talents—such as art, music, drama, dance, or crafts—to engage pupils, support emotional expression, and build confidence. You’ll work 1:1 and in small groups, adapting creative activities to meet individual needs and helping children communicate, regulate emotions, and enjoy learning in a safe, supportive environment.

The Ideal Creative Arts Assistant Will Be:

Passionate about using creativity to support SEND pupils

Confident delivering creative activities in school settings

Patient, nurturing, and adaptable in their approach

Able to build strong relationships through encouragement and positive reinforcement

Comfortable supporting pupils with emotional, sensory, or communication needs

Experience in education, SEND, youth work, or the arts is highly valued, but enthusiasm, creativity, and a caring attitude are just as important. A DBS on the Update Service is required (or willingness to obtain one).
