Out‑of‑Hours Veterinary Surgeon – County Durham

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Out‑of‑Hours Veterinary Surgeon to join a dedicated and experienced night team at a well‑established small animal practice in the beautiful county of Durham.

This role offers an excellent work‑life balance through an attractive rota of seven consecutive night shifts followed by three weeks off, operating on a four‑week cycle.

It is an ideal position for a veterinary professional seeking a rewarding emergency and critical care role with significant time away from work.

The practice is exceptionally well equipped, offering access to a broad range of advanced diagnostic and treatment facilities to support high standards of inpatient and emergency care.

Equipment includes an in‑house laboratory, digital x‑ray, ultrasound, upper and lower gastrointestinal endoscopy, rigid female canine cystoscopy, bronchoscopy, hydrotherapy facilities, and a CT scanner, which is due for installation.

The team welcomes applications from ECC‑trained vets as well as those looking to further develop their emergency and critical care experience. With certificate holders across multiple disciplines and a strong commitment to professional development, the practice provides excellent support for ongoing training and career progression.

For candidates relocating or joining from overseas, accommodation can be provided, and visa sponsorship may be available where required.

The position offers a competitive salary of up to £43,000 per annum, dependent on experience.

Benefits
  • Access to a comprehensive benefits package, including an annual CPD allowance with training support, paid RCVS membership, VDS cover, and funding for two additional professional memberships.
  • Additional benefits focus on health, wellbeing, and lifestyle support, including Health contributions towards a range of treatments, enhanced family leave policies, discounted veterinary fees, company sick pay, annual salary reviews, and access to employee discounts and cashback offers across shopping, travel, and entertainment.
