Family Support Worker – Prebirth Team

Durham County Council is recruiting a Family Support Worker for its Prebirth Team, based at Sherburn Hill Family Centre, DH6 1PA
. This is a temporary role paying £20.97 per hour, available from 19 July 2026.

Working within the Prebirth Team, you will provide practical help and intensive interventions to families experiencing vulnerability before and after birth. You will model appropriate parenting, support family time, and work within the Assessment Framework and Team Around the Family processes to contribute to whole‑family assessments and care planning.

• Build professional relationships with parents and their babies
• Deliver evidence‑based intervention packages
• Facilitate parenting programmes
• Contribute to child protection and child in care family plans alongside the social worker
• Set SMART outcomes, monitor progress, and support planned exit strategies
• Advocate for families with partner agencies

• Flexible working, including some weekend working
• Experience in family support, early help, or a related children’s services setting
• Strong skills in direct work with families, record keeping, and multi‑agency liaison
