Weighbridge Operator

Location: Coxhoe

Working as part of a team, responsible for the safe delivery and removal of waste materials to and from Joint Stocks Landfill Site. This is a frontline role where customer service is of paramount importance.

* To operate the weighbridge on a day to day basis and produce an accurate weighbridge ticket for all loads entering and leaving the site.

* To operate software systems associated with the weighbridge and record data in a timely and accurate manner. This data includes the customer/haulier details and the material being transported, the correct vehicle registration, source/ destination and any order number.

* To make sure deliveries and collections conform to Waste Management Legislation by inspecting relevant documentation. To ensure outbound documentation is completed accurately and completely in accordance with applicable legislation.

* To refuse to accept / issue material when a customer account is on a credit stop (unless prior authorisation is obtained from the Site Manager).

* To notify the driver when the vehicle is overweight.

* To carry out routine checks of weighbridge accuracy and make appropriate adjustments and balanced and reading zero. To carry out non-technical periodic maintenance of the weighbridge in accordance with manufacturer’s checklist such as cleaning. Ensure the weighbridge office is kept in a clean and tidy manner.

* Report to supervisor/manager any operational problems with the weighbridge, software systems or offices (i.e. inaccuracies, malfunctions, damage, cleanliness etc).

* To complete relevant records and documentation during daily operations.

* To act as reception at Joint Stocks Landfill Site, carry out site inductions relating to site rules and issue permits. Sign in site visitors and record details. To answer the telephone in a professional manner.

* To open up and lock the site when required and operate security systems.

* To work with other employees including DCC drivers and crews as well as contractors and customers to operate the facility safely and efficiently and resolve operational problems.

* To maintain a working knowledge of all operating and Health and Safety Procedures relevant to the role, and to adhere to these at all times and report incidents where others on site do breach health and safety procedures. To be aware of personal responsibilities towards health and safety, use of PPE, and reporting accidents, incidents and near misses.

* To follow standard operating procedures relevant to the post, carrying out the instructions of the line manager in a safe, competent and proper manner and reporting inappropriate behaviour that affects the smooth running of the site.

* To adhere to working patterns as determined by the operations manager to ensure the efficient delivery of services. This requires working to a 5 day week but working hours may be extended during peak periods involving working longer days at given times.

* To attend meetings and training course relevant to the post as required.

* To carry out site maintenance duties which will involve checking the perimeter fence & carrying out appropriate minor repairs, assisting in surface water management, routine maintenance of the sites wheel wash and carrying out inspections of the site to ensure compliance with the Environmental Permit.

* To operate machinery to ensure the site operations are compliant with the Environmental Permit and Planning Permission, this will involve operating an agricultural tractor & bowser and other smaller pieces of equipment, e.g. pumps, power wash

* To undertake general tasks across other service areas within the Service as and when required.

* To act as the sites nominated first aider.

* To undertake any other duties as may be required by Supervisors and Managers
