TheImpact You Will Have
Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota is seeking a seasoned Principal Cloud Platform Engineer to set the technical direction for our enterprise cloud platforms across Azure and AWS. In this strategic role, you will architect secure landing zones and guardrails, lead policy‑as‑code and identity/network patterns, and drive adoption of compliant “paved roads” aligned with HIPAA/HITRUST standards. You’ll own Infrastructure‑as‑Code (IaC) modules, establish identity, networking, and security baselines, and define platform reliability and resilience standards.
Beyond technical leadership, you’ll publish reference architectures, mentor engineers, collaborate with Fin Ops on cost optimization, and represent the Cloud Center of Excellence in executive forums and audits.
- Design, develop, code, and test digital products.
- Design, develop, configure, and support AWS platform.
- Lead system designs and technology platform decisions.
- Keep abreast of industry trends and present findings to team, leadership, and stakeholders.
- Mentor and train fellow team members on technologies, design patterns, and best practices.
- Participate on and lead agile teams of skilled developers, engineers, testers, and analysts.
- Contribute to product development.
- Continuous Integration / Continuous Deploy lifecycle.
- Work closely with business stakeholders to plan product features and stories.
- Work creatively and collaboratively to ensure product usability, usefulness, feasibility, and cost effectiveness.
- Ensure team members have tools, time, and resources they need to successfully deliver and support solutions.
- 7+ years of related professional experience, including work, education, transferable skills, and military experience.
- Cloud Service Provider Certification (e.g., AWS Cloud Practitioner, Azure Fundamentals), required within 1 year of employment.
- Demonstrated knowledge of digital platforms, tools, and processes.
- Demonstrated passion for building high‑quality technology solutions.
- Demonstrated experience in a technical leadership role.
- Demonstrated ability to come up with innovative, complete technology solutions to business needs.
- Position is on location at the Blue Cross MN Eagan campus and may include on‑call duties.
- High school diploma (or equivalency) and legal authorization to work in the U.S.
- Bachelor’s degree.
- 10+ years in cloud/platform engineering; deep experience with both Azure and AWS in enterprise settings.
- Proven delivery of landing zones/guardrails and regulated‑industry controls (HIPAA / HITRUST).
- Expert with Terraform at scale, CI/CD governance, and policy‑as‑code.
- Strong identity, networking, security engineering, and observability patterns.
- Preferred certifications: AZ‑305/AZ‑400, AWS SA Pro/Dev Ops Pro, CCSFP, CISSP/CCSP.
Pay Range: $ – $ – $ per year.
Pay is based on several factors which vary based on position, including skills, ability, and knowledge the selected individual is bringing to the role.

Role Designation: Hybrid – We come together in the office two days each week with at least one anchor day; the rest of the week is remote.
