OverviewThe Domestic Lead is responsible for the efficient movement of shipments from origin to destination, including identifying and selecting the most appropriate and cost‑effective domestic routing (airfreight, LTL, FTL) and providing overall support of branch operations. This role is the primary contact for cartage, including pickup and deliveries through our in‑house cartage partner, warehouse, and dock operations.
Responsibilities- Assist the Domestic Supervisor in managing department functions and work closely with the warehouse team on inbound labels/paperwork and driver check‑in.
- Quote, track, and trace domestic freight shipments for challenging accounts via air/ground daily; track overhead shipments and route accordingly.
- Manually review the OPS Routing queue throughout the day and manage daily reports such as milestones and dock checks.
- Assist with escalation requests, research and resolve issues with employees; update processes to fit resolutions and continue process improvement.
- Take an active role in onboarding new team members; provide training and development; manage daily reports.
- Assist Operations Supervisor with project rollouts as needed.
- Communicate quarterly and annual goals and monitor employee goal progress.
- Proactively communicate with clients regarding freight status.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Comply with all policies and standards.
- The wage range for this position is $27.50 – $37.90 and may vary based on geography and experience.
- High School Degree or equivalent (Required)
- Associate's Degree (Preferred)
- 5+ years experience in freight forwarding, domestic forwarding ground carriers, commercial airlines, and cartage (Required)
- 2+ years SAP, AS400 & Cargo Wise experience (Preferred)
- Knowledge of regulations and compliance procedures associated with all areas of freight forwarding and cartage (High)
- Understanding of freight forwarding routing and quoting (High)
- Knowledge of IATA and TSA regulations (High)
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using units of currency, weight, volume, and distance measurements (High)
- Computer literate and knowledgeable of Microsoft Word & Excel (Medium)
- Ability to interact effectively with personnel at all levels of employment (Medium)
