Position Summary

The Sr. Safety Coordinator assists the Project and Division Safety Manager and leadership in enforcing and regulating all safety procedures to ensure that Southland Industries meets all safety requirements in the field and all facilities by managing and coordinating all division safety activities.

Responsibilities
  • Tours and inspects small to mid-size job sites to ensure compliance with company, state, and federal OSHA rules and regulations. Reports concerns to safety management and ensures enforcement of OSHA regulations and company safety policies.
  • Ensures health and safety standards are met by coordinating, promoting, and conducting various programs and activities related to the safety management system.
  • Documents safety inspections, cites dangerous areas/procedures, recommends corrective procedures, and ensures cited issues are corrected within a designated timeframe.
  • Maintains all site‑required documentation related to safety issues, including accident reports, inspection reports, and training logs. Uses this information to track trends and injury rates, develop current and future loss control strategies, and implement corrective actions to prevent similar incidents.
  • Provides emergency response to employees as needed and participates in and documents information for the investigation of accidents and injuries, submitting data to regulatory agencies as required.
  • Participates in development of training materials and coordinates and facilitates employee training as necessary.
  • Trains less‑experienced safety employees as needed.
  • Participates in ad‑hoc safety projects.
  • Participates in owner and client meetings.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Health, or Environmental Applied Sciences or related discipline preferred.
  • 3+ years experience in a related field, including employee training experience.
  • Experience in safety management preferred.
  • Certifications in CPR and First Aid required.
  • OSHA 10‑hr, OSHA 30‑hr, OSHA 40‑hr training required.
  • OSHA 500, CHST or ASP certifications required.
  • Excellent working knowledge of health and safety management systems; OSHA CFR 1926 standards or the state construction safety regulations.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent problem‑solving skills.
  • Excellent customer‑service and organizational skills.
  • Excellent project management skills.
  • Excellent computer skills – experience with Microsoft Office suite and ability to access OSHA information via the internet.
  • Thorough knowledge of safety operating processes and procedures.
  • Ability to lead employees.
