Main duties of the job

As a Practice Nurse, you will deliver a broad range of clinical care within a busy primary care setting, supporting patients across all age groups. Your role will involve running nurse‑led clinics, contributing to the management of long‑term conditions, and promoting preventative health through education and screening.

You will work closely with GPs and the wider multidisciplinary team to assess patient needs, provide appropriate treatment, and ensure continuity of care. A key part of the role is building strong relationships with patients, supporting them to manage their health and wellbeing effectively.

You will also play an active role in maintaining high standards of clinical governance, ensuring safe practice, accurate record‑keeping, and adherence to protocols. Alongside clinical duties, you will contribute to the smooth day‑to‑day running of the service, demonstrating flexibility and a team‑focused approach.

Working Pattern: Part‑time: 5 sessions (20 hours) per week

Job Overview

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Practice Nurse to join our friendly primary care team. The successful candidate will deliver high‑quality nursing care to our patient population, supporting health promotion, chronic disease management, screening programmes and vaccination services. You will work collaboratively with GPs and the wider multidisciplinary team to deliver safe, effective and patient‑centred care.

Main Duties of the Job
  • Cervical cytology, including Open Exeter entry and smear safety monitoring
  • Childhood immunisations
  • Family planning support and advice
  • Suture removal
  • Simple and complex wound care and dressings
  • Vaccination programmes including influenza, pneumococcal, shingles and pertussis
  • Ordering and stock management of vaccines in line with cold chain protocols
  • Infection control lead duties, including monthly audits
  • Chronic disease management clinics
  • ECG recording
  • Ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM)
  • Health promotion and preventative care activities
Person Specification Qualifications
  • Registered Nurse with current NMC registration
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development (desirable)
Experience
  • Experience working in primary care
  • Experience working with clinical protocols and pathways
  • Experience managing long‑term conditions
Knowledge and Skills
  • Knowledge of long‑term condition management
  • Understanding of clinical governance
  • Knowledge of health promotion strategies
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills

Additional Information
