Job Overview

We have an exciting opportunity for a dedicated Band 6 Nurse to join our friendly and progressive Community Children's Nursing Team in Ealing. This is a full‑time post (37.5 hours per week). The team is well-established and committed to providing compassionate, family‑centered nursing care to children facing acute, complex, and long‑term health conditions. We currently offer a five‑day service to children and their families living in Ealing Borough, supporting palliative and end‑of‑life care.

Applicants should be experienced, enthusiastic, and motivated. Candidates may be either a Band 5 or already a Band 6 nurse. Experience working in the community is preferred but not essential.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage a diverse caseload of children and young people, serving as a specialist resource in a defined clinical area.
  • Provide evidence‑based nursing care, ensuring the best possible clinical outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate, legible, comprehensive records and comply with mandatory training requirements.
  • Supervise Health Care Support Workers, students, or other Band 5 nurses, ensuring they meet the required standards.
  • Act as a clinical leader, supporting the team to meet Care Quality Commission (CQC) standards and improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in audit, benchmarking, and quality improvement activities.
  • Advocate for patients and families within multi‑disciplinary teams.
  • Respond to complaints or concerns effectively and quickly in line with Trust policy.
Patient Experience
  • Work in partnership with patients, families, and carers, gaining consent and involving people in decision‑making.
  • Signpost patients to relevant services and reassurance through professionalism and knowledge.
  • Create an inclusive culture where everyone is treated with kindness and respect, embodying the Trust’s values.
Person Specification Education and Qualifications (Essential)
  • Registered Children's Nurse (RSCN or RN Child Branch) with NMC registration.
  • Degree level education.
  • Post‑registration training and paediatric training evidence.
Education and Qualifications (Desirable)
  • Community Nursing/Specialist Practitioner qualification.
Experience (Essential)
  • Post‑registration experience.
  • Recent acute general children’s nursing experience.
  • Experience working with multi‑disciplinary teams.
  • Experience with child protection procedures.
  • Experience facilitating professional development of other staff.
Experience (Desirable)
  • Community nursing experience, especially in culturally diverse communities.
  • Experience working with students.
  • Experience teaching.
Knowledge (Essential)
  • Knowledge of the Nursing and Midwifery Council Code of Professional Conduct.
  • Knowledge and experience of Personal Development Planning.
  • Knowledge and use of evidence‑based care.
  • Knowledge and experience of Clinical Supervision.
  • Knowledge of equal opportunities and their impact on practice.
Knowledge (Desirable)
  • Knowledge of budgetary management.
  • Knowledge of legal and statutory implications/requirements for training parents/cars.
  • Knowledge of Clinical Governance and its implementation.
  • Knowledge of political issues within the profession and NHS.
  • Knowledge of the audit process.
Skills and Abilities

  • Recent use of clinical skills, including palliative, respiratory, cardiac, gastroenterology, special needs, complex care, and life‑threatening/limiting conditions.
