Pet Smart’s Pet Stylist in Training is responsible for engaging with pet parents and their pets while providing positive experiences and salon services. The role receives training from experienced teams, learning grooming techniques, and upholding the company’s vision, mission, values, and strategy. The position shares responsibility for store cleanliness, recommending solutions for pet parents, and pet safety standards. The Pet Stylist in Training role is obtained once the associate has completed the Pet Smart Grooming Academy.

• Under supervision, perform a full menu of bath, brush, and grooming services, and standalone services (e.g., nail trims, teeth brushing, sanitary services) according to Pet Smart’s standards.
• Develop safe technical grooming skills that meet or exceed company expectations.
• Recommend additional health and wellness solutions to Pet Parents based on pets’ needs.
• Provide a positive pet parent experience in person, over the phone, and at the sales register.
• Greet Pet Parents, answer questions, and assist with salon reservations.
• Make appointment reminder calls, maintain client records, and consult with Pet Parents on offered services.
• Handle check-in/check-out procedures for grooming appointments, including paperwork and rebooking.
• Promote salon sales to help achieve sales targets and other relevant salon metrics.
• Recommend, inform, and sell merchandise and services.
• Maintain high standards of cleanliness and humane conditions for all pets in the grooming area; perform daily maintenance and end-of-day cleaning per the maintenance checklist.
• Take immediate action if a pet is ill or injured and arrange transportation to a veterinarian as needed.
• Assist in other departments as required. Other duties may be assigned.
• Participate in the culture of Belonging and Recognition.
• Follow all Company Policies and Procedures.

• Successful completion of Pet Smart’s Salon Academy training and safety certification program.
• Prior grooming experience preferred; may be asked to complete a technical exam.
• Proficiency in computer applications.
• Ability to react under pressure and maintain composure.
• Flexibility in schedule; able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail and safety measures.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

• Stand, walk, climb stairs or ladders, and use hands to handle, feel, and operate equipment; frequent reaching, stooping, kneeling, and crouching. Vision requirements include depth perception. Reasonable accommodations available for disabilities.
• Lift and/or move up to 50 pounds regularly; occasionally team lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.
• Work in environments with pet hair, and exposure to moving mechanical parts and live animals. Noise levels may vary.
