Job Description

The Child Care Teacher will plan and implement a program of activities which will ensure each child’s personal safety while providing enrichment, physical challenges and learning experiences. The Child Care Teacher will uphold the employee code of conduct and will ensure that all areas of the job responsibilities reflect the mission of the Old Colony Y and the regulating agency. S/He will display and encourage the character traits of caring, responsibility, honesty and respect in the fulfillment of all job duties.

Program

Responsibilities
  • Understand and ensure EEC regulations and NAEYC standards as well as Old Colony Y policies (Child and Youth Care policy, Child Guidance Policy, Health Care Policy) are maintained at all times.
  • Plan, develop, and implement the program curriculum in accordance with EEC regulations, NAEYC standards and Old Colony YMCA’S policies.
  • Gear the lesson plans to the needs of individual children with concern for their interests, abilities and needs, special talents, cultural diversity, and individual style and pace of learning.
  • Leadership of daily activities as well as classroom arrangement, appearance and overall learning environment.
  • Understand and maintain QRIS standards.
  • Act in a public relations capacity when communicating with parents, Y personnel and potential clients.
  • Supervision of the program’s children in all program locations, trips, etc.
  • Complete necessary documentation, including accident reports, incident reports, attendance records, and forward a copy of these reports to the Child Care Director.
  • Family Strengthening – ensure timely issuance of a monthly newsletter/calendar of events for families.
  • Act as a positive role model.
  • Maintain proper behavior of children at all times with strict adherence to both the YMCA Child Guidance Policy, and the Child Care Policy.
  • Ensure Fun/Food Curriculum, menu planning and guidelines meet HEPA standards.
  • Maintain attendance records and ensure all necessary reports and paperwork are submitted accordingly.
  • Meet with Child Care Director as directed.
  • Provide monthly Bureau of Nutrition reports where applicable.
  • Establish and maintain effective training programs, conferences, courses and other aspects of professional growth.
  • Establish and maintain working relationships with site‑specific personnel.
  • Provide input for performance evaluations.
Supervision Of Personnel
  • Assist with monthly staff meeting.
  • Assist with supervising, training and evaluating child‑care staff and volunteers.
  • Attend mandatory training sessions and all child‑care meetings.
Fiscal Responsibilities
  • Ensure maximum enrollment is achieved.
  • Assist with the Annual Campaign and other fund‑raising events.
  • Adhere to all fiscal policies and procedures, such as purchase orders, employee expense forms, member balances and appropriate safekeeping of tuition payments.
Facility/Housekeeping Responsibilities
  • Ensure a clean, organized, and safe program space.
  • Communicate to appropriate staff facility issues which need to be addressed in a timely manner.
Volunteer/Committee/Inter‑divisional Assignment Responsibilities
  • Actively participate on assigned committees and with the Y’s Annual Campaign.
  • Promote Y programs through public appearances and presentations.
  • Attend at least 20 hours of childcare training annually.
Requirements
  • Minimum of 21 years of age or have a high school diploma or equivalent AND meet EEC requirements for education and experience for Teacher.
  • CPR/AED and First Aid certifications required.
  • Evidence of physical examination within last 12 months.
  • Immunity for measles, mumps, and rubella.
  • Ability to create and sustain a culture of excellence and work and thrive as part of a cohesive team.
  • Ability to lift/move heavy equipment and clean when necessary.
  • Will sometimes work early morning, late nights and weekends.
  • Strong oral communication skills required for occasional public speaking responsibilities.
  • Ability to sit, stand, bend, lift up to 75lbs on occasion and 40lbs frequently (children) and move intermittently during work hours.
  • Ability to thoroughly understand Y-USA's three focus areas:
    Youth Development, Healthy Living, and Social Responsibility; proven ability to identify and meet the needs of the health seeker.
