Reports to: Mechanical Repairman Supervisor

Note: Operational requirements for the East Chicago Water/Filtration Department necessitate that personnel performing the job of Maintenance Man must be available for 24‑hour on‑call duty.

1. Basic Maintenance (10%)

• Perform basic maintenance on bar screens, pumps, blowers, gear boxes, conveyors, compressors, HVAC systems, hydraulic systems, sand filters, and sludge presses.
• Cleans the above equipment.
• Change filters in the above equipment.
• Checks and maintains fluid levels in the above equipment.
• Performs all basic maintenance tasks in a safe manner.
• Works well with teammates in performing basic maintenance tasks.

2. Maintenance (10%)

• Performs general maintenance on pumps, blowers, gear boxes, conveyors, compressors, bar screens, HVAC systems, hydraulic systems, sand filters, and sludge presses.
• Performs all maintenance tasks in a safe manner.
• Works well with teammates in performing maintenance tasks.

3. Repairs (20%)

• Performs repair work on pumps, blowers, gear boxes, conveyors, compressors, bar screens, HVAC systems, hydraulic systems, sand filters, and sludge presses.
• Performs all repair tasks in a safe manner.
• Works well with teammates in performing repair tasks.

4. Troubleshooting (30%)

• Performs troubleshooting work on pumps, blowers, gear boxes, conveyors, compressors, bar screens, HVAC systems, hydraulic systems, sand filters, and sludge presses.
• Performs all troubleshooting tasks in a safe manner.
• Works well with teammates in performing troubleshooting tasks.

5. Installation (20%)

• Installs the following equipment: pumps, blowers, gear boxes, conveyors, compressors, bar screens, HVAC systems, hydraulic systems, sand filters, and sludge presses.
• Performs all installation tasks in a safe manner.
• Works well with teammates in performing installation tasks.

6. Housekeeping (5%)

• Maintains clean, well‑organized conditions in all job sites, storage areas, shop areas, and vehicles.
• Requests and coordinates assistance for large‑scale cleaning tasks.
• Performs all housekeeping tasks in a safe manner.
• Works well with teammates in performing housekeeping tasks.

7. Pick‑up Truck Operation and Maintenance (5%)

• Checks all truck fluid levels and adds more when needed.
• Notifies the supervisor of problems requiring assistance from vehicle mechanics.
• Drives a pick‑up truck to and from job sites.
• Washes and cleans truck interior.
• Performs all pick‑up truck operation and maintenance tasks safely.
• Works well with teammates in performing pick‑up truck operation and maintenance tasks.

8. Other duties as assigned.
