Position: CHIEF ENGINEER - STRUCTURES

• Develop and train a team of engineers with a wide range of experience and expertise

o Define training material and training plans

o Evaluate team member skills and competencies to aid in their technical growth

o Identify and develop emerging / existing competences to address business needs

• Establish / monitor technical discipline procedures and policies

• Approval / signature authority on major analysis milestones before customer delivery

o Lead technical reviews for discipline reviews and project milestones

o Ensure team members have a clear understanding of technical issues and solutions

o Identify and adhere to quality and technical standards in the delivery of tasks

• Provide technical inputs and resolve technical issues for multiple projects, including suggesting alternate methods of analysis and developing new Engineering Standard Work

• Lead periodic discussions on analysis troubleshooting, industry standards, new technologies

• Coordinate workload and reviews with team members in other offices (within the US and offshore)

• Build and maintain existing customer relationships

• Build IP legacy for the structures domain / customer products

• Support recruitment initiatives such as interviews and onboarding

• Support project planning of new and existing tasks (cost, schedule, and scope)

o Resource plan and assessment

o Define engineering standard work plan and tailor for each individual task

• Develop internal processes and procedures based on best practices and lessons learned

Structural Analysis Responsibilities

• Perform a variety of structural analysis tasks for aero engine components (Fatigue lifing, modal analysis, impact, creep, strength, etc…)

• Define solution approach, including problem definition, assumptions, analysis plans, and verification

• Perform analysis modeling using ANSYS (primarily) that includes:
Meshing, loading, solving, debugging, linear and nonlinear, elastic-plastic

• Interact with other engineering disciplines

• Follow customer engineering standard work

• Document all work completed, including technical recommendations, lessons learned and best practices, and improvements to standard work and internal processes

• Participate in engineering reviews (for your work and others) and provided feedback for acceptance and / or improvements areas

• Develop innovative ideas to improve cost on customer products / parts (redesign / process improvements)

• Work in a fast-paced, team environment to meet quick deadlines

Qualifications

• 15+ years of experience in the Structural Analysis or Stress Engineering service

• BS or higher in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or equivalent

• Proficiency with FEA required. Familiarity with ANSYS, LS-DYNA preferred.

• Proficiency in the Aero industry is required

• Understanding of Programming Logic required, to create macros and sub-routines

• Proficiency with MS Office, particularly MS Excel, required

• Experience mentoring / developing engineers is highly preferred

• Proficiency with CAD programs preferred

Project Management experience is a plus
