- Projects will range from engine safety, production stoppage, new/repair technology development, cost reduction, etc. where the engineer will understand customer requirements and execute development programs to meet and exceed business needs.
- Collaborate with other internal engineering disciplines, engineering management and manufacturing customers as part of an Integrated Product Team to ensure the successful transition and implementation of technology into Pratt & Whitney’s products.
- Be proficient in, or able to attain proficiency in, the development of advanced Thermal and Environmental Barrier Coating (TBC/EBC) chemistries and establishment of process/property relationships of advanced coating systems.
- Be proficient in application processes such as diffusion process, Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD), thermal spraying, slurry, and plating as well as characterization methods (mechanical, physical & metallography) of these materials.
- Be proficient in the development or leveraging of integrated computational modeling tools and frameworks (e.g. Thermo-Calc, Fact Sage, etc.) to effectively solve complex problems.
- Lead elements or entire initiatives to establish next generation coatings with unique capabilities for specific applications.
- Interface with the Air Force Research Lab (AFRL), Department of Defense (DOD), Department of Energy (DOE) and NASA customers & lab technical community to seek, secure and execute contracts.
- Work effectively in a team environment and be highly motivated.
- Responsibilities include bench‑marking coating/alloy technology and processes, securing funding, managing projects, and updating engineering standard work.
- BS degree in Material Science, Chemical Engineering, Applied Physics, or related technical field with 5+ years of Engineering experience or 3 years with an advanced degree.
- Fundamental understanding of aerospace coating application methods and process optimization tools.
- US Citizen due to government programs requirements.
- Travel Requirements: 10%.
- Advanced degree in Material Science, Chemical Engineering, Applied Physics, or related technical field and minimum 5 years of experience.
- Background in Thermal Barrier Coatings and Environmental Barrier Coatings, gas turbine engine alloys, and high pressure turbine design; as well as experience in testing and characterization of thin films.
- Fundamental understanding of effects of environmental contaminants such as dirt, sulfur and salt on performance of aerospace materials.
- Experience in data collection, data management, data analysis methods and Lean/Six Sigma tools is a plus.
- Fundamental understanding of material and process modeling with strong communication skills.
- Experience with program planning, cost estimation and scheduling in addition to meeting contractual requirements during execution is preferred.
