Lead Residential Counselor (Psych Rehab)
Lead Residential Counselor provides direct support to people with behavioral conditions, mental health challenges, intellectual and developmental disabilities in a small group residential setting or an individual living arrangement. The role involves working closely with residents, their families, friends, employers, and other support staff to build independence skills, enhance quality of life, and foster community integration.
Responsibilities- Assist in developing, implementing, and documenting treatment plans (ISP/IPs, clinical programs).
- Provide training and support through rehabilitative interventions, behavioral monitoring, fire & safety, appointments, money management, ADLs, grocery shopping, meal planning, cooking, household chores, and related tasks.
- Promote community integration by providing transportation, planning recreational and social activities, and supporting community-based services.
- Assess residents’ physical and emotional status and report changes to supervisor.
- Maintain records, collect behavior and academic data, and enter information into electronic health records and communication logs.
- Store, administer, document, and dispose of medication per MAC requirements and company policy.
- Communicate with program nurse, funding agency, case managers, service providers, and physicians.
- Participate in training, staff meetings, orientation of new staff, and ensure regulatory compliance.
- Maintain program site safety and general housekeeping tasks.
- Comply with corporate policies, safety practices, and exposure control.
- Complete required paperwork, logs, timesheets, and application forms.
- Ensure required staff‑to‑consumer ratio is maintained; cover last‑minute shifts as needed.
- Act as a human rights advocate, perform physical intervention or first aid, and report to the Disabled Persons Protections Commission.
- Maintain certifications, manage work emails, and adhere to administrative policies.
- Perform other related duties as required.

A minimum of two years’ experience in a Residential Counselor role and a demonstrated track record as an exceptional performer and team‑player are required.
Preferred / Required EducationHigh school diploma or equivalent is required; a bachelor’s degree in a related field is preferred. In some cases, experience may substitute for academic training.
Driving RequirementsDriving is mandatory using either a Vinfen van or personal vehicle. Applicants must hold a valid driver’s license, maintain adequate insurance, and possess a safe driving record subject to annual checks. Candidates must be at least 21 years old and have had a valid U.S. driver’s license for six months.
Physical EffortAbility to stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, climb, lift at least 25 pounds (proper technique or two‑person lift), operate computer equipment, and assist clients with daily living tasks. Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
Required Certifications- CPR within two weeks of hire
- First Aid within two weeks of hire
- Safety Care within two weeks of hire
- MAC follows CT guidelines
USD $21.00 – USD $21.00 per hour.
