Salary: $19.39 Hourly, with a weekend shift differential of $1 per hour ($20.39).

Scope of Service:
The Residential Aide assists residents with daily personal routines, provides prompts for daily living skills, supports skill‑building activities, and encourages participation in group and community activities. The role includes companionship, maintaining a safe and organized living environment, collaborating with nursing and management staff, and documenting care activities.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Establish rapport and positive working relationships with residents while maintaining professional ethics and boundaries.
  • Enhance residents’ independent living skills through engagement, assessment, and teaching modalities such as modeling, prompting, and hands‑on assistance.
  • Support residents with activities of daily living, including personal care, hygiene, housekeeping, laundry, food management, nutrition, budgeting, health and safety, leisure, and other constructive activities.
  • Facilitate or co‑facilitate psycho educational groups and social recreation activities as indicated.
  • Provide transportation to and from appointments and assist with travel planning and use of public or private transportation.
  • Conduct regular apartment/room inspections, maintain cleanliness, and assist residents in keeping their spaces safe and organized.
  • Perform ongoing rounds and safety checks, administer breathalyzer and urinalysis tests as applicable, and document shift logs in electronic records according to policy.
  • Maintain relationships with providers, families, and community supports, responding to crisis situations with appropriate intervention.
  • Supervise, monitor, and document medication self‑administration and attend monthly staff meetings, clinical rounds, and agency‑wide trainings.

Environmental Responsibilities

  • Maintain a clean, well‑organized work environment and clear walkways to support workplace safety.
  • Notify supervisor of maintenance or safety issues and generate work orders as needed.
  • Participate in fire and emergency evacuation drills and review the emergency preparedness plan.
  • Participate in Food Bank activities when assigned.
  • Remain awake during all shifts to maintain client and facility safety.

Quality Assurance

  • Adhere to policies and practices outlined in the staff handbook and program operations manual.
  • Uphold respect, cooperation, and constructive teamwork.
  • Comply with HIPAA regulations and secure necessary releases of information.
  • Model culturally competent behavior in interactions with clients, providers, and colleagues.
  • Maintain accurate electronic records and case files in accordance with contractual, licensing, and accreditation requirements.
  • Participate in agency committees, trainings, conferences, and outside professional development as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma or equivalent with a minimum of one year of experience in a related healthcare field. Licensed CNA or equivalent certification accepted in lieu of experience.
  • Prior experience working with individuals with severe and persistent mental illness, intellectual disabilities, and/or addiction.
  • Knowledge of community support systems and resources is preferred.
  • Valid Connecticut Driver’s license with a clean driving record is required.
  • CPR/First Aid certification (maintained by employee).
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office and electronic record keeping.
