Tax Controversy Manager / Senior Manager Help Shape Outcomes When the Stakes Are Highest

Some tax professionals spend their careers focused primarily on compliance. Others become the trusted resource colleagues turn to when a tax issue becomes more complex, an examination begins, or an important outcome is on the line.

This role offers the opportunity to become a highly visible advisor within the firm, partnering with clients, engagement teams, and firm leadership to help shape strategies, navigate challenges, and influence outcomes when they matter most.

Clark Schaefer Hackett is seeking an experienced Tax Controversy Manager or Senior Manager to join one of Midwest’s most respected tax practices. Whether your experience was gained in public accounting, a law firm, the IRS, or another tax-focused environment, this is an opportunity to leverage your expertise in a role where your voice, insights, and judgment will truly matter.

As a member of our team, you'll work alongside highly respected tax professionals who value collaboration, intellectual curiosity, and practical problem-solving. You'll help clients navigate examinations, disputes, notices, appeals, and other complex tax matters while serving as a trusted resource to colleagues throughout the firm.

Just as importantly, you'll have the opportunity to help shape the future of a growing specialty practice. This is a role where expertise creates influence, and where influence creates meaningful impact for clients, colleagues, and the firm.

Why Clark Schaefer Hackett?

They want the opportunity to work alongside exceptional colleagues, contribute to something meaningful, and continue building expertise that will create long‑term career value.

In this role, you'll collaborate with accomplished tax professionals, gain exposure to a wide variety of challenging matters, and play a critical role in an area of practice that continues to grow in both demand and strategic importance.

What You'll Do

You'll serve as a strategic advisor to clients and colleagues while helping manage a variety of federal, state, and local tax controversy matters, including:

  • Tax research and controversy strategy
  • Client advocacy and representation before taxing authorities
  • Consultation with partners and engagement teams on complex tax matters
  • Development of client relationships and business opportunities within the practice

Depending on experience and level, this individual may also play a significant role in mentoring staff, developing processes, and helping drive the continued growth of the firm's tax controversy capabilities.
