Sr. Project Manager – Transportation Design

The ideal candidate will be highly motivated, collaborative, proactive, demonstrate technical excellence, and focus on delivering high‑quality work. This opportunity entails responsibility for managing assigned project(s) throughout their full lifecycle, including developing the scope and technical sections of proposal and procurement documents, participating in contract negotiations, and overseeing the delivery of the project plan to successfully accomplish HNTB’s 4‑for‑4 performance: quality, on‑time, on‑budget, and client satisfaction on every project.

This position proactively manages the budget, schedule, technical requirements, contractual obligations, and client communications in support of the project’s objectives. Provides high‑level technical tasks while managing and reviewing design‑related specifications, calculations, reports and plans. Coordinates with internal and external partners, including cross‑discipline and functional teams to address and problem‑solve design‑related issues or concerns. As Sr. Project Manager you will manage multi‑disciplinary teams for projects ranging in fees from $1 M to $25 M, or lead or serve in a key discipline‑lead role on a team with a fee greater than $25 M.

What

You’ll Do
  • Responsible for development of the project scope and fee quotation and assisting in the preparation of technical proposals and contracts in accordance with HNTB’s Sophisticated Contracting Approach (SCA).
  • Serve as the primary client liaison and manage the project team to deliver the scope, schedule, and budgets to completion and to the client’s satisfaction. Lead client contract scoping and negotiations.
  • Perform technical discipline tasks including analysis, reports, design, specification, and production for assigned projects.
  • Implement the firm’s project delivery plan using HNTB’s Sophisticated Delivery Approach (SDA) on each project. Lead the development and execution of the project management plan. Supervise and mentor team to overall project objectives.
  • Oversee project staffing, including recruitment, development, retention, succession, staffing plan, and performance and compensation reviews.
  • Partner with Client Service Leaders and pursuit champions to assist with business development, building client relationships, and pursuit efforts for mega and super‑mega projects in accordance with HNTB’s Sophisticated Sales Approach (SSA). Work with the project team and marketing resources to prepare appropriate proposal and presentation materials. Lead proposal development and interview presentations for strategic, mini‑mega or mega projects to the client as well as general presentations within the industry and community.
  • Recruit, hire, develop, retain staff, and manage succession plans.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
What You’ll Need
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and 12 years of relevant experience.
  • 4 years of successful management of engineering projects.
What You’ll Bring
  • Excellent technical knowledge and quality work in multidisciplinary projects, including the ability to consider the impact of design decisions on cost and construction of transportation infrastructure.
  • Experience in winning, contracting, and successfully delivering 4‑for‑4 (on‑time, on‑budget, quality, client satisfaction) on multi‑disciplined or large/complex projects.
