Tool Maker | East Lansing, MI Salary Range: $62,000 - $95,000 depending on experience

Key Responsibilities- Design, build, and repair precision tools, dies, jigs, and fixtures.
- Interpret blueprints, schematics, and 3D models to determine tool specifications.
- Operate conventional and CNC machinery (lathes, mills, grinders, EDMs) to fabricate tool components.
- Perform precise measurements using calipers, micrometers, gauges, and CMMs to ensure dimensional accuracy.
- Conduct preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of production tooling.
- Collaborate with engineering and production teams to optimize tool performance and design.
- Select appropriate materials and heat treatments for tool longevity and performance.
- Completion of a recognized Tool & Die Maker apprenticeship or vocational program.
- Proficiency in operating conventional machining equipment, including lathes, mills, grinders, and EDMs.
- Ability to accurately read and interpret complex blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
- Expertise in using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, height gauges, and bore gauges.
- Strong understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles.
- Proven experience in troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining various tools, dies, jigs, and fixtures.
- Proficiency with CAD/CAM software (e.g., Solid Works, Mastercam)
- Experience operating Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM)
- Welding experience (e.g., TIG, MIG) for tool repair and modification
- Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing principles or Six Sigma methodologies
