ICU Veterinary Assistant – Full Time
Position SummaryThe successful candidate will work on animal patients; monitor temperature, pulse, and respiration; monitor IV fluid administration; walk animals outside; clean ward areas, stock supplies; process lab samples and medication orders; enter charges in the hospital information system; assist clinicians, veterinary technicians, and clinical students with animal patients in the Small Animal Emergency Medicine Unit of the Veterinary Medical Center.

Minimum RequirementsKnowledge normally acquired through a high school education; six months to one year of related work experience in a veterinary practice, maintaining accurate records, typing and basic computer skills; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Desired QualificationsExperience with general handling of cats and dogs; knowledge of animal restraint for blood collection and IV catheter placement; positioning for X-rays and IV fluid monitoring; previous exposure to monitoring equipment such as IV fluid pumps, EKG, Pulse oximeter, and Doppler blood pressure.

Summary of Health RisksPotential exposure to animal or specimens with Mycobacterium bovis, work with animals or unfixed animal tissue, wear a respirator (does not include paper dust mask worn for comfort).
