The School is situated at the heart of the city, and takes advantage of the many museums, lecture programmes, and events in London.

We are seeking a well-motivated and enthusiastic teacher of physics to join our physics department in September 2026. This is a permanent role, and is offered on either a full or part-time basis. The salary for this role is competitive.

The department

The successful candidate will be managed by the head of physics. They will join the physics department - a collaborative and forward-thinking department, where lessons are based on investigative skills and student-led learning. The department receives a generous annual budget and is well-equipped.

Students take the three sciences separately from year 7, and begin the Edexcel IGCSE course in year
9. They have one double lesson each week in years 7, 8, and 9, moving to one double and one single in years 10 and 11. Physics A level follows the AQA course, usually taking the Astrophysics option in year 13. Approximately 25 students choose A level physics each year. Each group has four double lessons per week in years 12 and 13, with the teaching of each group shared between two members of staff.

The maximum class size is 14 students. Students applying to university to study physics or related subjects, such as Materials or Engineering are offered extra enrichment lessons.

There are numerous super curricular offerings related to physics, including the Physics Olympiad (years 10 to 13) and year 12 trips e.g. Physics in Action. A group of our year 12 and 13 physicists are physics ambassadors and arrange events, visiting speakers, and physics outreach. The department is a member of the Institute of Physics.
