Leading FMCG company based in East London requires an experienced individual for Head of Engineering
. The role is to provide technical strategic leadership for the East London factory.

Purpose of the Role

Drive technical excellence by leading the engineering process, evaluating existing and new infrastructure, processes and improving capabilities, efficiency and productivity in all areas of manufacturing.

Planning & Operational Management
  • Deliver prompt, technology‑driven support to the site to enhance manufacturability, cost efficiency, workflow optimisation, quality, and safety standards.
  • Lead the maintenance and reliability of all process equipment and facilities to maximise operational efficiency.
  • Provide engineering and technical expertise for existing operations as well as new capital projects, construction, and installations.
  • Manage and coordinate external contractors and service providers for project execution.
  • Oversee site utilities and infrastructure, ensuring reliable support for manufacturing areas, laboratories, warehouses, and office facilities.
  • Liaise with suppliers to define technical specifications, procure equipment and materials, and ensure compliance with safety, ergonomic, and quality standards.
  • Develop, manage, and control capital expenditure projects and plant operating budgets.
  • Supervise the engineering stores function, ensuring an effective critical spares strategy and optimal equipment availability.
Engineering Services
  • Plan, implement, and manage maintenance activities for machinery, equipment, buildings, and contracted services.
  • Direct and control capital projects to ensure delivery within approved timelines, budgets, and quality expectations.
  • Lead the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of the Engineering Maintenance System.
  • Monitor and approve engineering deviations in collaboration with senior leadership.
  • Drive site‑wide energy efficiency initiatives.
  • Manage validation, calibration, and preventative maintenance programmes.
  • Oversee all utility systems and provide performance reporting on related initiatives.
  • Optimise the use of equipment, technology, and engineering resources.
  • Develop and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for equipment and utilities.
  • Identify and address training requirements to ensure ongoing technical competence of personnel.
  • Ensure adherence to GMP and all relevant regulatory standards.
  • Maintain full compliance of plant equipment and facilities with Occupational Health and Safety legislation.
Governance, Risk, Safety & Compliance
  • Ensure operational activities align with strategic objectives, policies, and governance frameworks.
  • Maintain legally compliant record‑keeping practices and contribute to policy updates where required.
  • Recommend and support the implementation of risk‑based compliance systems to strengthen organisational and unit performance.
Skills & Experience Qualifications & Background
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
  • Minimum of 10–15 years relevant experience.
  • Master’s qualification advantageous.
  • Engineering Certificate of Competence (GCC/GMR2 – Government Ticket) is essential.
  • Proven experience in FMCG manufacturing and maintenance environments.
  • Demonstrated leadership and team management experience.
Technical Skills
  • Ability to interpret technical procedures, engineering drawings, blueprints, diagrams, and business documentation.
  • Strong knowledge of production systems, maintenance processes, control and calibration systems.
  • Understanding of material handling systems, manufacturing equipment, tooling, and processes.
  • Experience with Lean principles and world‑class manufacturing practices.
  • Sound knowledge of pharmaceutical standards, regulations, and compliance requirements.
  • Ability to interpret and apply organisational policies, procedures, and strategic objectives.
