About the Role

Our client is seeking a meticulous and experienced Senior Process Safety Engineer to join their team in East London. This critical role focuses on ensuring the safety of our client's Oil & Gas operations by identifying, assessing, and mitigating process-related hazards. You will be instrumental in developing and implementing robust process safety management (PSM) programs, conducting risk analyses, and ensuring compliance with stringent safety standards.

The ideal candidate possesses a deep understanding of chemical processes and safety engineering principles, contributing to a secure and reliable operational environment in the Eastern Cape.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and participate in Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs), including HAZOP, LOPA, and FMEA studies.
  • Develop, implement, and manage Process Safety Management (PSM) programs in accordance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
  • Perform quantitative risk assessments (QRAs) to evaluate the likelihood and consequences of potential incidents.
  • Review and approve process design changes, ensuring that safety implications are thoroughly assessed.
  • Develop and maintain safety-critical equipment (SCE) lists and ensure their integrity through effective mechanical integrity programs.
  • Investigate process safety incidents, identify root causes, and implement corrective and preventive actions.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in process safety engineering, specifically within the Oil & Gas industry or petrochemical sector.
  • In-depth knowledge of Process Safety Management (PSM) standards (e.g., OSHA PSM, EPA RMP).
  • Experience with risk assessment methodologies such as HAZOP, LOPA, and FMEA.
  • Familiarity with safety instrumented systems (SIS) and relevant standards (e.g., IEC 61508/61511).
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical communication skills.
