1st Shift Composite Straightener Operator

Monday–Friday, 7:00am – 3:30pm
Pay Range
$19.76-$20.97 hourly
What You’ll Do
- Set up and operate a Roll Mill, Bruderer Straightener, and ancillary equipment to straighten bi‑metal coil stock and locate defective welds.
- Load, unload, and operate electric vacuum annealing furnaces following standard practices and procedures.
- Check coil tags and material before annealing and again before straightening to assure proper coil identity.
- Use overhead electric hoist to place racks of coils into floor level annealing furnaces; input required data into the programmed controller.
- Monitor operation via temperature recording chart; unload using overhead hoist, checking furnace for broken elements, damaged seals, insulation, etc.
- Load coils of annealed stock to pay‑off reel and thread through rolling mill, various guides, rollers, and wipers of the Bruderer Straightener; through ultrasonic and laser inspection stations to take‑up reel.
- Select proper carbide spacers, guides, and rollers; adjust rollers to obtain desired camber and to remove coil set.
- Adjust ultrasonic tester and laser gauge, cut large coils as necessary, and handle defect marking and removal.
- Maintain production records indicating footage processed, defect types, and numbers; enter data into computer for production records and statistical quality control.
- Monitor automatic operation of additional lines of straightening equipment during temporary absences.
- Dispose of scrap materials using a chopper; perform regular scheduled preventative maintenance, maintain log, change tester transducers, and calibrate laser gauge.
- Detect and report unsafe or defective equipment or materials; maintain area and equipment in a neat and orderly manner.
- Observe and obey all safety rules, regulations, and practices.
- Perform other similar or related duties as assigned or directed by supervisor.
Who You Are
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Knowledge of charts, specifications, and micrometers.
- 1–2 years’ experience preferred.
- Comfortable with numbers including decimals.
- Light physical effort required; ability to lift, push, and pull 5 to 25 pounds.
