Position: Psychiatric Physician (Behavioral Health Specialist)

Job Summary

Psychiatrists evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients with mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders. They conduct thorough psychiatric evaluations, develop treatment plans, prescribe medication, and evaluate treatment results. Examine and treat patients with a wide range of conditions and refer as needed those with serious ailments to a specialist or appropriate facility. Typical job duties include taking patient histories, performing, or requesting diagnostic tests, making diagnoses, prescribing treatment, performing follow-up examinations, as well as educating patients in disease process and health maintenance.

Additional duties include preparing medical records, clinical reports, and correspondences. Commit to train other physicians to deliver quality health services to patients of diverse cultural, ethnic, and economic backgrounds, collaborate and oversee physicians’ assistants, nurse practitioners, and other allied health professionals as needed in a collaborative practice environment. Oversee the behavioral health program in an end-to-end approach that supports a holistic treatment plan for the patient as well as fosters their best health outcome.

Essential Functions

  • Guide and lead team through all regulatory requirements including state, federal, and other governing bodies such as Joint Commission.
  • Oversee and adhere to policies and procedures of the organization; support and carry out the Mission and Values of the organization.
  • Oversee all aspects of day-to-day coverage for the department of behavioral health.
  • Work collaboratively with the state partner to ensure both regulatory compliance and growth goals are met.
  • Assess and screen patients by conducting psychiatric evaluations, including interviews, medical histories, and making treatment recommendations.
  • Analyze data and results of assessments to diagnose patients.
  • Prescribe and administer medications according to diagnosis.
  • Monitor patients to determine efficacy and potential side effects of medications.
  • Develop a treatment plan, measure progress against the plan, and adjust as needed.
  • Provide crisis intervention as needed.
  • Complete all necessary clinical documentation in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Collaborate with a broader team of physicians, management, psychotherapists, and nurses to assess and adjust treatment plans.
  • Coordinate and communicate with case managers and other stakeholders about treatment and care of our patients.
  • Participate in the on-call rotation as agreed upon.

Minimum Education/Certifications
Must have an unrestricted medical license to practice in New Jersey recognized by the proper licensing authority.
Current and valid board certification in psychiatry or be board eligible.
Medical degree from an accredited medical school and completion of an approved psychiatric residency.
Current DEA registration.
Excellent knowledge and familiarity with current DSM criteria.
Familiar with evidence-based crisis assessment tools and techniques.
Strong working knowledge of general psychiatric principles and practices.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Minimum Work Experience
Completed residency in psychiatry. Minimum five years leadership experience in the area of psychiatry.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: Exempt FT Regular business hours 40-hour work week. Must be willing to provide on-call coverage as assigned.
