Overview
Office Assistant - EPIC - East Patchogue role at NYU Langone Health.
Responsibilities- Provides basic front-desk support for clinical intake operations. May be responsible for pre-authorizations and certifications with the exception of surgical procedures.
- Provides reception assistance (greet patients, answer calls, direct inquiries to proper individuals). Screen telephone callers professionally; schedule routine appointments, follow-ups for visits and procedures that do not require or have already been pre-authorized. Refer inquiries regarding pre-authorizations/certifications to the appropriate person. Collect and complete patient-related documents. Assist patient in enrolling in Patient Secure if necessary. Confirm patient appointments daily and maintain scheduling to avoid gaps.
- Manage patient check-in/check-out, gather demographic data, obtain/verify insurance information, verify eligibility electronically, collect signatures on patient-related documents (HIPAA, MSPQ, ABN, etc.). Follow up to gather missing data/materials to complete the intake process or refer to senior staff.
- Collect co-pays and other balances; scan documents into the intake system; monitor intake work queue for timely completion.
- Assist with accuracy of pre-certifications and verifications, ensuring correct coding and asking physicians questions as needed.
- Provide guidance to patients regarding insurance coverage and referrals to appropriate offices for financial counseling when applicable.
- Maintain professional relationships with physicians, nurses and staff; type routine materials (forms/letters); file and organize materials; distribute documents according to procedures; manage supplies and keep the workspace clean.
- Answer patient questions to ensure understanding and satisfaction; maintain confidentiality of privileged information.
- May assist, guide, and/or train staff with intake-related duties.
High School diploma or equivalent. Excellent organizational, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. Strong customer service skills; ability to multitask in a team environment. Knowledge of Microsoft Office, database and internet applications. Light, accurate keyboarding skills.
Preferred Qualifications6 months physician practice office experience. Knowledge of medical terminology and EPIC Ambulatory.
Salary and BenefitsSalary range: $54,164.99 - $54,165.00 annually. Actual salary depends on experience, specialty, education, and hospital need.
