SUMMARY:
The Security Officer reports to the Manager Safety & Security. Under general supervision, provides security for patients, employees and visitors; protects hospital buildings, assets and premises as assigned. Requires working outdoors in both good and bad weather. - Patrol hospital buildings and premises to prevent fires, thefts, vandalism and intruders.
- Monitor conduct of visitors on hospital premises; confront unauthorized persons for questioning as needed.
- Report safety and/or fire hazards or security violations to Manager Safety/Security.
- Respond to inquiries for advice or assistance from hospital personnel, students and visitors; restrain psychiatric patients when requested.
- Escort personnel to parking lots and hospital buildings.
- Participate in investigations; maintain records and prepare incident reports and other documents pertinent to security activities.
- Maintain records, reports and files as required.
- Consult with and keep supervisor informed of activities, needs and problems in assigned areas.
- Secure offices and facilities as required. May be asked to secure certain personal articles of visitors or lost and found articles; maintain a log of items received.
- Control parking and traffic flow; enforce parking regulations.
- Perform cleaning tasks as requested per duties list.
- Assist in maintaining a safe environment on patients units as requested.
- Maintain established hospital and department policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance, safety, environmental and infection control.
- Care for and maintain department supplies and equipment. Requisition supplies and equipment as needed or inform supervisor.
- Attend meetings and in‑services as required.
- Maintain professional growth and development through in‑services education, seminars, workshops, etc.
- Observe all hospital guiding principles and all hospital policies, rules and regulations, including those pertaining to quality improvement, infection control, risk management and safety.
- BASIC KNOWLEDGE: Completion of high school or equivalent.
- Current CPR and First Aid certification desirable.
- Valid driver's license with a good driving record required.
- EXPERIENCE: Previous training in security techniques or directly related job experience.
- One week of on‑the‑job experience to become familiar with Hospital complex, policies and procedures.
Physical Requirements
Works in all environments of the Hospital complex, including offices, patient care environments, parking areas, buildings, control rooms, etc. Must be able to remain standing/walking for long periods of time; capable of climbing multi‑level stairs; able to lift, occasionally, weights in excess of 50 lbs. Exposed to dangers of assault and hazards resulting from investigation of alarms and other irregularities when making rounds.
