Primary Purpose

To provide fast, easy, flexible, and friendly service to our customers through the achievement of Food Lion customer service standards. To be friendly, courteous, and cooperative with other store associates. Responsible for assisting the Customer Service Manager and the Assistant Customer Service Manager in maintaining standards according to Front End Standard Practice Manual, maximizing sales through excellent customer service.

Duties And Responsibilities
  • Smile and provide prompt, accurate, and friendly service while engaging customers to create a positive shopping experience.
  • Greet each customer and use his or her name whenever possible.
  • Unload customers' groceries from cart to belt, grouping cold items together for ease of bagging.
  • Check the bottom of every cart and under all baby seats for items before completing an order.
  • Follow correct bagging procedures for the proper use of bags by type.
  • Scan customers' orders and handle the payment transaction per standard practice.
  • Avoid personal conversations with other associates when customers are present.
  • Follow procedures in handling cash, checks, coupons, gift cards, partner cards, food stamps, and WIC vouchers.
  • Follow procedures for refunds and error correction.
  • Maintain accurate cash control whenever possible.
  • Follow procedures and perform overrides as needed.
  • Identify customers needing assistance and offer to take their order to their car, including Food Lion To-Go orders if applicable.
  • Maintain alertness and call for assistance when needed to service customers per service standards.
  • Check prices quickly and accurately.
  • Be courteous and helpful to other associates.
  • Wear the Food Lion uniform with apron, complete with name badge, when on duty, maintaining a neat and clean appearance according to dress code.
  • Retrieve shopping carts from the parking lot and cart corrals using the tether strap per standard practice.
  • Ensure the work station and front-end area of the store are neat and clean.
  • Report any register malfunctions to the Customer Service Manager or MOD.
  • Ensure the MVP savings center KIOSK is filled with paper and functioning properly.
  • Observe and correct unsafe conditions to prevent accidents.
  • Notify QA of cleaning issues or maintenance needs on the front end.
  • Complete computer-based training and training aid courses successfully.
  • Perform cashier tasks when scheduled or as needed per surge plan guidelines.
  • Manage the front end briefly in the absence of the CSM/ACSM if necessary to maintain service standards.
  • Perform Food Lion To-Go Runner duties when scheduled or as needed.
  • Ensure check stands are stocked with bags, receipt paper, and restock cigarette drawers at each lane.
  • Seek more efficient ways to do the job, aiming to reduce costs and improve productivity.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High school graduate or equivalent preferred.
  • Effective communication and customer service skills.
  • Willingness to learn multiple tasks and technical requirements.
  • Ability to perform cashier and service center tasks.
  • Must meet minimum age requirements for specific job functions.
  • Ability to meet physical requirements of the position, with or without accommodations.
Physical Requirements
  • Use of computers, smart devices, and communication systems.
  • Perform repetitive hand and arm motions.
  • Bend and lift weights up to 50 lbs.
  • Pull or push up to 75 lbs.
  • Stand continuously and walk short distances.
  • Handle substances related to cleaning, packaging, and food products.
  • Handle currency and operate equipment frequently.
  • Reach and grasp at various levels.
  • Work in extreme temperatures for short periods.
  • Visual ability to check IDs and written documents.
