We are seeking a Commercial Manager to support the delivery of a major nuclear project in Suffolk.
In this role, you will be responsible for managing all pre and post-contract commercial activities across one or more assigned contracts, ensuring effective commercial management throughout the contract lifecycle.
As a key member of the Supply Chain and Commercial team, you will report to the Senior Commercial Manager and play a pivotal role in the successful administration and delivery of major contracts. You will be empowered to make commercial decisions within your delegated authority, providing commercial leadership, managing risk, and ensuring contractual obligations are met.
Acting as the primary commercial point of contact for your assigned contracts, you will work closely with project teams, suppliers, and senior stakeholders to deliver successful commercial outcomes. The role requires a proactive and collaborative approach, ensuring contract requirements are effectively managed while supporting the wider objectives and successful delivery of the programme.
Roles & Responsibilities :- Manage the day-to-day activities and development of Supply Chain Assistants within the team.
- Lead commercial activities across the full contract lifecycle, including procurement, contract delivery, and final account close-out.
- Ensure contracts are delivered in accordance with project governance requirements, budget expectations, and programme objectives.
- Support the development of commercial strategies and contracting approaches for major work packages.
- Lead the preparation, issuance, evaluation, and negotiation of tender and contract documentation.
- Review contract scope, value, risk, and commercial requirements to ensure robust and effective contract administration.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with project stakeholders, suppliers, contractors, and legal teams.
- Manage supplier and contractor performance, engagement, and commercial relationships.
- Produce commercial reports, dashboards, and performance updates to support project decision‑making.
- Maintain accurate commercial records and contract documentation.
- Promote collaborative working practices and continuous improvement, incorporating lessons learned from previous major infrastructure projects.
- Support the ongoing professional development of yourself and the wider commercial team.
- Educated to relevant degree level is preferable.
- Progressing to full membership of the RICS / CICES / IOB is preferable.
- Able to demonstrate a noteworthy track record of administering successful contracts.
- Effective commercial / contract management skills are essential, with clear knowledge of best practice contract methodologies.
- Good commercial skills and ability to make sound decisions on matters of financial value.
- Understanding of contract performance measurement, risk management and change and claim management.
- Good negotiating, influencing and communication skills to command professional respect at all levels.
- Familiarity with most common Forms of Contract (NEC & FIDIC) within the power construction industry and major projects and programme environment; with particular knowledge of UK Law and its impact upon the contract and commercial function is essential.
