What will you do?
The CWA is recruiting directly for a Site Engineer – Metal to support stainless steel welding and fabrication activities. Working within a supplier’s facility or across the CWA’s self-delivered site works, the successful candidate will help ensure that fabrication is completed safely, efficiently and in line with programme and quality requirements.
This is a practical, site-focused opportunity. The Site Engineer will spend a significant proportion of each shift working alongside fabrication teams and a multidisciplinary workforce, providing engineering guidance and helping maintain product compliance, welding efficiency and production performance.
Key responsibilities will include:
Producing task briefing sheets and method statements, and delivering the associated workforce briefings
Completing safety inspections, identifying hazards and contributing to safe systems of work
Interpreting drawings, schedules and specifications, and producing sketches containing set-out information
Maintaining survey and measuring equipment, including relevant registers and testing arrangements
Preparing as-built drawings, quality check sheets and handover information to LTQR standards
Keeping accurate site records, including daily diaries, photographs and records of discussions
Monitoring performance against the weekly programme and helping produce KPI and progress information
Recording labour, plant, materials, subcontractors and outputs, and reconciling material usage
Identifying additional work and reporting actual resourcing against budget
Highlighting issues that could affect safe production and working with the workforce and line manager to develop practical solutions.
What are we looking for?
The CWA is looking for a proactive engineer who can balance safety, quality, programme and commercial priorities in a live fabrication or construction environment.
Candidates should have:
An HNC, HND or degree in a relevant discipline, or suitable site experience within construction or fabrication
The ability to explain safe systems of work clearly and ensure that requirements are understood and followed
Experience working across operational and commercial priorities to resolve problems
Knowledge of recognised project management principles and methodologies
A valid CSCS card and full UK driving license
Flexibility to work away from home where required
The ability to meet security-vetting requirements, which ordinarily include UK residency for at least three of the previous five years.
Experience in the following areas would be advantageous:
Welding and stainless steel fabrication
Nuclear construction, including experience gained on Hinkley Point C or another EPR programme
Budgetary control and wider commercial awareness
Taking ownership of tasks, working independently and communicating outcomes clearly
