Job Description

Are you looking to build your skills? East Sussex County Council Education Division within Children’s Services is delighted to announce an exciting opportunity for a fixed term Business Administrator Level 3 Apprentice.

This is a great opportunity to begin your career in business administration while supporting services that make a real difference to children, young people, and families across East Sussex.

As a Business Administrator Level 3 Apprentice you will be based within the Specialist Teaching Services Team, at St Mary’s House, Eastbourne, or Cavendish House, Hastings.

You will provide administrative support across a range of service areas, gaining valuable insight into the Education Division while developing practical skills in a professional working environment.

Apprenticeships are an excellent way to start your career, allowing you to learn and train while working alongside experienced colleagues and developing job‑specific skills. You will be assigned an apprenticeship coach and supported day‑to‑day by a workplace mentor or supervisor.

During the apprenticeship you will build strong administrative skills, and work towards a nationally recognised Level 3 qualification, all while contributing to services that help children and young people thrive. We are committed to supporting career progression, and the diversity of work offers excellent scope for personal and professional growth.

In this role you will learn to provide day‑to‑day administrative support including filing, photocopying, mail handling and information updates. You'll use Microsoft Outlook, Teams, Word and Excel confidently as part of your daily work and handle telephone and email enquiries professionally. Tasks will include preparing correspondence, reports and accurate data entry across Council systems. You will support meetings and events, including diary coordination, minute‑taking and planning, and will assist with financial processes such as petty cash, invoice processing and maintaining records.

This is an opportunity to develop problem‑solving skills to help staff, customers and partner agencies, and learn to manage your time effectively while completing your Level 3 apprenticeship qualification.

We’re Looking For Someone Who
  • Is organised and able to manage their own workload
  • Is an effective communicator with strong interpersonal skills
  • Has working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Is accurate, attentive to detail and able to work as part of a team
  • Is motivated to learn and committed to personal development
Required Qualifications
  • Maths and English at RQF Level 2 in Maths and English (or equivalent).

N.B. For the purposes of enrolment onto the apprenticeship training course, we cannot accept applications from candidates with a qualification equal to or above in a related subject, or with more than 12‑24 months of work experience in an administration role.

Benefits
  • Earn a salary while completing a nationally recognised qualification.

  • A welcoming workplace that values inclusion and wellbeing.
  • Excellent employee benefits including annual leave and development opportunities.
  • Diverse range of benefits to help and support you during your employment.
