About the role

You will need to a good team player, flexible, a good communicator and record keeper. You should have completed your Level 2 Award in Instructing Cycle Training or working towards your Recognised Prior Learning (RPL) qualification. Training may be offered to candidates with relevant experience.

You will be:

  • Encouraging and developing safe cycling skills.
  • Increasing knowledge and understanding of the road and traffic environments.
  • Giving trainees the confidence to use their cycles on local roads.
  • Part of a small team

You will have:

  • A willingness to be flexible
  • An ability to communicate with confidence and patience
  • An ability to motivate and interact with trainees
  • An ability to work on your own initiative
  • An ability to work as part of a small team of instructors
  • Be able to complete training records for each trainee

You may work with colleagues from other teams in City Transport and may be expected to assist with other road safety training schemes.

As a casual cycle instructor you will deliver National Standards training known as Bikeability to children aged 5 to 15, and to adults. You will also deliver bike maintenance training.

You will deliver basic skills, on road and advanced skills training. The sessions are delivered in non-traffic and traffic environments and are delivered throughout the year between 8.30 and 17.00.

Additional hours are available and weekend working may be available.

Additional information

Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is less than 37 hours or term-time only.
