Allocations Officer (Fixed term for 1 year)

We are seeking a motivated and organised Allocations Officer to join our Housing team.

In this role, you will be responsible for assessing applications to join the housing register, ensuring all decisions are made in line with our Allocations Policy. This will involve determining eligibility, qualifying criteria, and housing need to deliver a service that is fair, transparent, and efficient.

Due to the limited availability of social housing within the city, demand significantly exceeds supply. As such, this role requires sound judgement, attention to detail, and the ability to manage sensitive situations with professionalism and empathy.

About the Role

  • Assess and process housing applications in accordance with Allocations Policy, legislation, and guidance
  • Make clear, evidence-based decisions on eligibility and housing need
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records on the housing register
  • Work closely with colleagues across Housing Solutions, internal departments, and external partners
  • Provide clear and timely communication to applicants and stakeholders

About You

  • Highly organised with the ability to prioritise and manage a demanding workload
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Able to work collaboratively with a wide range of teams and organisations
  • Comfortable making decisions in a high-demand environment
  • Knowledge of Part 6 and Part 7 of the Housing Act would be an advantage (training will be provided)

The Allocations Team operates in a fast-paced, high-demand environment, so resilience, attention to detail, and strong organisational skills are essential.
