About usSussex Community Dermatology Service (SCDS) is a community based dermatology network that delivers specialist skin care across East Sussex, Coastal West Sussex, Surrey, Mid Sussex, West Kent and Berkshire.
SCDS Provide timely, high quality dermatology care that reduces unnecessary referrals to secondary care and improves patient experience through a see and treat approach. SCDS Key services include Minor skin surgery (excision, biopsy,shave, punch), Patch testing for allergies, Photodynamic therapy (PDT),Phototherapy (UVB/PUVA), Day case procedures, Dermatological assessment clinics, Skin cancer screening and early intervention programs.

The post holder will support outpatient dermatology clinics across East Sussex, undertaking holistic assessment, assisting with minor procedures, providing wound care and patient education, and contributing to the efficient running of the service.
The post holder will work within the scope of professional competence, exercising clinical judgement, prioritising workload, and escalating concerns appropriately. The role requires flexibility to work across multiple clinic sites and to contribute to quality, governance, and service improvement activities.

Main Duties And Responsibilities
Clinical Duties
- Undertake holistic nursing assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care for patients attending the dermatology service.
- Support clinicians during consultations, investigations and minor surgical procedures including biopsies, excisions, curettage and associated treatments.
- Prepare treatment rooms, instruments, equipment and consumables to ensure clinics are ready and safe.
- Provide pre-procedure and post-procedure care, advice and wound management support.
- Undertake wound reviews, dressing changes and suture removal in line with competence and local policy.
- Monitor patients during procedures and recognise and upscale deterioration or complications promptly.
- Maintain accurate, contemporaneous clinical records.
- Support the coordination of clinic flow and patient experience.
Communication And Interpersonal Skills
- Communicate clearly and effectively with patients, carers and colleagues.
- Explain procedures, aftercare, treatment plans and potential risks in a way patients can understand.
- Act as a chaperone when required.
- Respond sensitively and professionally to patient concerns and questions.
- Contribute to safe handover and effective multidisciplinary communication.
