Interview date: TBC

As a Casual Social Worker, you will support the delivery of statutory duties placed upon the Council under the Care Act 2014 and other relevant legislation. This casual arrangement will only be used during periods where the service has Social Worker vacancies or identified workforce pressures and is intended to support the continuity of safe and effective service delivery.

We are looking for an experienced and motivated Social Worker with strong professional values and a commitment to delivering strengths-based, person-centred practice. You will be confident in managing complex casework and have a sound knowledge of relevant legislation including the Care Act 2014, Mental Capacity Act 2005, Mental Health Act 1983 and safeguarding responsibilities.

The post holder may be responsible for:

  • Completing Care Act assessments, support planning and reviews.
  • Managing a caseload of adults with complex needs.
  • Undertaking safeguarding enquiries and coordinating Section 42 investigations.
  • Supporting the progression of court work and preparation of reports where required.
  • Applying the Mental Capacity Act and undertaking best interests decision-making processes.
  • Working collaboratively with health colleagues, providers, carers and partner agencies.
  • Promoting strengths-based approaches that maximise independence and wellbeing.
  • Supporting the reduction of waiting lists and ensuring statutory duties are fulfilled within required timescales.

The successful candidate will:

  • Be a qualified Social Worker registered with Social Work England.
  • Have experience of working within Adult Social Care.
  • Have a thorough understanding of the Care Act 2014, Mental Capacity Act 2005 and safeguarding legislation.
  • Be confident in assessing risk and managing complex situations.
  • Demonstrate strong assessment, communication and report-writing skills.
  • Be able to work flexibly and effectively within a multidisciplinary environment.

Warranted Approved Mental Health Professionals (AMHPs) may be encouraged to participate in the citywide AMHP rota where appropriate. A market supplement may apply in line with current arrangements and subject to compliance with AMHP requirements.

You will receive regular supervision, support and access to relevant training and development opportunities.
