Old School Thornhill Development Trust is looking for a passionate Young Person Coordinator to help shape inspiring opportunities for young people in our village.

Part-time: 2 days per week

Location:

Old School Thornhill
Salary: £28,000 pro rata

Contract:

2-year fixed term
Benefits: 5 weeks holiday (pro rata) + 5% annual pens

The Young Person Coordinator plays a central role in ensuring young people actively shape, use and benefit from OST. The postholder will embed youth voice across our work, guided by the principles of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC).

Purpose of the Role

To develop, coordinate and deliver a high-quality, accessible programme of youth activities at OST, supporting young people to build skills, confidence and connections. The role includes supporting a Youth Committee and establishing the Trade Routes programme to strengthen local employability pathways.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate, sustain and develop after school and youth activities
  • Design new programmes responding to young people’s interests and needs
  • Deliver sessions directly where required
  • Recruit and support freelance facilitators and volunteers
  • Work with Wallace Hall Academy and local primary schools to plan workshops linked to OST cultural events
  • Organise standalone cultural and educational activities
  • Establish and facilitate a Youth Committee
  • Support youth leadership training and accreditation (e.g. Youth Achievement Awards)
  • Enable youth-led events and grant applications
  • Ensure youth views inform OST development
  • Develop the Trade Routes programme with schools and local employers
  • Strengthen pathways into training, apprenticeships and employment
  • Maintain strong partnerships with Wallace Hall Academy and community networks
  • Contribute to monitoring, reporting and evaluation
  • Ensure safeguarding and inclusive practice across all activities
  • Work flexibly, including evenings and weekends
  • Complete the Professional Development Award (PDA) in Youth Work within 12 months
Person Specification

Essential:

  • Experience working with children/young people
  • Programme planning and delivery
  • Strong organisational and communication skills
  • Understanding of safeguarding
  • Ability to work independently and within a small team
  • Flexible working
  • PVG Scheme membership (or willingness)
  • PDA in Youth Work (or willingness to achieve)

Desirable:

  • Relevant qualification
  • Experience with schools, employability or youth participation
  • Knowledge of Thornhill/community sector experience
