The Role

The role is strategic and operational, providing professional leadership, and influencing future service delivery in NHS Lanarkshire for identified sites. The post holder will have a professional lead for nursing/midwifery within their sites, ensuring standards of clinical practice, patient centred care and workforce development are in place to maximise the impact of nursing on service change and quality improvement.

The post holder will act as a deputy to the Site Chief of Nursing services and will work closely with the Site Director and the Chief of Medical Services and their deputies in providing visible leadership at both a site and NHS Lanarkshire level.

The post holder will contribute to the clinical, financial and staff governance arrangements ensuring safe, efficient and effective care, compatible with professional and national clinical standards.

The post holder will contribute to the corporate management of the Directorate, and assists the Divisional Director in achieving the Executive Directorate's objectives.

In This Key Role, You Will
  • To contribute to the strategic direction of the sites and area of responsibility, and assist in the determination of the Acute Division’s strategy and policy.
  • To act as a member of the site triumvirate /quadrumvirate / Senior Management team and support the delivery of financial, clinical activity and performance targets. Contributes to strategic planning groups at National, Board and Divisional level, particularly when deputising for the Chief of Nursing Services
  • To ensure that evidence-based practice determines the delivery of patient care. The post holder directs and facilitates clinical and nursing research and audit, encouraging utilisation of research findings
  • To works in partnership, within local and national guidelines for professional management of staff, in relation to performance, conduct and capability.
  • To influence and motivate staff to work across traditional boundaries for the redesign of clinical services.
  • To be accountable for the delivery of safe, effective and efficient nursing/midwifery care throughout the area of responsibility and be responsible for the development and implementation of clinical and non-clinical policies, guided by professional and clinical standards (NMC, NHSQIS) and NHSL strategic aims
  • Supporting the implementation of systems, control processes and risk management arrangements to support monitoring of compliance with governance and best practice requirements
What You'll Bring
  • Registered Nurse / Midwife with valid NMC Registration.
  • Educated to/working towards/operating at Masters Level.
  • Be able to demonstrate knowledge of NHS Scotland’s Leadership Qualities framework or equivalent framework.
  • Management knowledge gained through experience and continuous professional development.
  • Professional, leadership and managerial experience within speciality / area of practice that demonstrates the required breadth of knowledge required to lead safety, effectively and efficiently.
  • Extensive knowledge of clinical guidelines and standards within the health care agenda.
