Perinatal Duty Practitioner

The closing date is 15 March 2026

We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated individual with relevant experience in community mental health to join the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Perinatal Mental Health Service.

The Hampshire, Frimley and Isle of Wight Perinatal Mental Health Service is a well established and pioneering specialist service consisting of an expert multidisciplinary community team and a mother and baby inpatient unit. The service is also an early implementer site for Maternity Mental Health Services, broadening the remit and profile of specialist interventions available for women/birthing people and ensuring an enhanced care pathway.

The Perinatal Community Team provides a specialist community service for the assessment and treatment of women with severe mental health problems in pregnancy and up to 2 years postnatal.

Main duties of the job
  • Work within the duty team and brief intervention pathway to provide timely assessment and contact to patients referred to the service via video and telephone calls.
  • Provide support as part of the Brief Intervention pathway to identify and deliver brief perinatal interventions to patients with low risk, non‑complex perinatal illness.
  • Collaborate closely with the duty team, wider multidisciplinary team, psychology and medical staff to deliver high quality care and experience across the duty pathway.
  • Coordinate joint working with outside organisations to ensure robust collaboration where needed.

The team base is at Southern House in Otterbourne, near Winchester, but the service covers all of Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, meaning the duty function also covers all areas of the Isle of Wight and Hampshire.

Person specifications and qualifications
  • Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN) qualification or Diploma/degree in Occupational Therapy or Certificate or Diploma/degree in Social Work.
  • Drivers licence and suitable transport to carry out community nursing within a rural and urban geographical area. Full driving licence if using own vehicle.
  • Experience or interest in perinatal mental health.
