We are looking for Pharmacy Technicians and Pharmacy Technician Apprentices to join Walgreens pharmacy teams. Our pharmacy technician positions have moved from a transaction‑based environment to a patient‑centric one, and we are proud to offer an "earn while you learn" Pharmacy Technician Training Program recognized by ASHP and the Department of Labor. This apprenticeship program guides you toward becoming a Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) Certified Pharmacy Technician and helps you maintain the high level of skill required in the pharmacy care industry.
Whether you are new to working in pharmacies or are an experienced technician, Walgreens will train you to use your skills and talents to serve and care for our patients and customers. The courses, learning activities, and resources provided in our program give you foundational and advanced knowledge, skills, and on‑the‑job experiences needed to prepare to become a certified pharmacy technician.
ResponsibilitiesPharmacy Skills
- Assist the pharmacist under direct supervision in the practice of pharmacy, and perform other Pharmacy Department duties in accordance with Company policies and procedures.
- Use pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions. If PTCB certified, assist and coach pharmacy technicians in the operation of pharmacy systems and cashiers in the use of pharmacy cash registers.
- Model and deliver a distinctive and delightful customer experience.
- Engage customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services. Resolve customer issues and answer questions to ensure a positive customer experience.
- Model and share customer service best practices with all team members, including interpersonal habits (e.g., greeting, eye contact, courtesy) and Walgreens service traits (e.g., offering help proactively, identifying needs, servicing until satisfied).
- Develop strong relationships with high‑value customers.
- Under the supervision of the pharmacist, assist in the practice of pharmacy in accordance with state, federal, and company policy and review compliance with the Walgreen Co. Pharmacy Code of Conduct.
- Perform duties as assigned by Pharmacy Manager, Staff Pharmacist, and Store Manager, including entering patient and drug information into pharmacy systems, ensuring accuracy, filling prescriptions by retrieving, counting, and pouring pharmaceutical drugs, verifying medicine correctness, and checking for possible interactions.
- Assist pharmacists in scheduling and maintaining workflow.
- Report prescription errors immediately to the pharmacist on duty and adhere to Company policies and procedures in relation to pharmacy errors and the Quality Improvement Program.
- Strictly adhere to the Walgreen Co. policy regarding Good Faith Dispensing during all applicable prescription dispensing activities.
- Register all related sales on the assigned cash register, collect and handle cash as required, and take customers to the OTC aisle when possible.
- Handle telephone calls that do not require the pharmacist’s personal attention, including calls to physicians.
- Process (correct and resubmit) manual claims for third‑party prescription services efficiently.
- Assist and support pharmacy department inventory management activities, such as ordering, unpacking, checking, and storing pharmaceutical shipments.
- Maintain knowledge of company asset protection techniques and file claims for warehouse overages, shortages, or damaged goods involving prescription drugs.
- Assist pharmacist in administering clinical services, including collecting and labeling blood or urine samples from patients and coordinating clinical services with Walgreens healthcare clinics and external providers.
