Job SummaryThe medical assistant performs patient care from intake to exit, assists with daily care, and performs various medical tasks including vitals, point‑of‑care testing, outreach, medication administration, and documentation. Administrative duties are also performed as assigned.
Major Duties And Responsibilities- Patient Focus:
Daily contact with patients, providers, nursing staff, family members, employees, visitors, contracted services staff, and referral sources; assists patients through the flow of each visit. - Checking, Examining, and Recording:
Pre‑visit planning (follow up on referrals, consult notes, labs, and other outside patient health records); provide accurate documentation of the reason for the visit. - Analytical and Critical Thinking:
Collect and record vital‑sign data (pulse, temperature, respirations, blood pressure, weight, height); implement the plan of care by collecting specimens, administering treatments and injections, assisting with procedures and GYN exams, recording health‑status changes, and supporting clinicians and nurses. - Communication:
Alert the health‑care team when leaving for breaks or at shift end; explain concepts of confidentiality, anonymity, and informed consent; reinforce health information; explain the importance of post‑test counseling and develop a plan for receiving results; ensure clients understand results, review risk‑assessment and safer‑sex guidelines; establish rapport, demonstrate sensitivity, listen effectively, encourage questions, and distribute educational/preventive materials and condoms when appropriate. - Workplace Computers and Equipment:
Document in medical records and write notes accurately; perform point‑of‑care and other tests according to established policies and procedures. - Teamwork:
Work collaboratively with all members of the patient‑care team.
- Ability to work effectively with a diverse population.
- Ability to deliver exceptional customer service by empathizing with patient needs.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and work as part of a team.
- Must be flexible and adapt to a changing environment.
- Graduation from an accredited medical‑assistant program.
- Required:
Certified or registered medical assistant within 90 days of employment. - Preferred:
At least 1 year of experience as a medical assistant in a similar environment. - Desired:
Working knowledge of electronic medical records.
